Little half strength fish based liquid fertilizer with low numbers. Same mix has my other ones as tall as 18".

That tomatillo looks happy, at this point I'd just let them do their thing. Are you expecting a freeze anytime soon? You could probably experiment with planting them out, I noticed mine braved the rain and cold up until November when the hard freezes started to roll in.

There are some high 30 nights ahead on the 10 day forecast. Also, is it true I need 2 plants to get fruit for tomatillos?

It's hotly debated, but last year unless I was out in my greenhouse cross pollinating with a fine paint brush they would just drop flowers instead of forming husks.
