Default Favorite Beefsteaks?

This thread comes on the heels of another thread that asked for advice on 4 tomatoes that had fabulous catalog descriptions.

Don't hold me to an exact quote, but comments like -this tomato is good but there are better large pinks, and -I wouldn't grow this one, piqued my curiosity.

Okay, I'm dying to know - what would you grow and why?

Well here's what I'm growing, but I've only tried a fraction - 150 or so - of the varieties out there.
Pink/Purple - Chianti Rose
Red - Chapman
Black - Black from Tula
Yellow/Orange - Kellogg's Breakfast
For flavor, these are first-rate. All strong plants, great production and quality here.

So far with my limited growing, My favorite beefsteak is Pineapple. I don't know if Black Krim counts but I love it as well.

Thanks and WOW- some of these I've never heard of. I've already bought too much tomato seed for this year's garden and I'll use your lists to pick which 12 varities actually get grown in 2009.

But, should I add JD's Special C-Tex? What a name! Then there's Spudulata and Spudakee Purple. Just the names alone make we want to try these dark beefsteaks.

I grew Pineapple in Oregon and it didn't do much for me. I didn't have enough sun or heat but I did have wonderful soil. Gardening is very different in Georgia and I really should go back and try some of the ones I rated poorly before.

Yvonne, yes, you should grow JD's Special C-Tex. It's a keeper.

That's the quote you got from me about my knowing better large pinks and now I forget what I was commenting about, but I'd be glad to list some of my favoite large pinks, but I see from other posts that folks are listing large anything colors.

It's been a long day for me for many reasons so I'll come back tomorrow and list some varieties.

I just wanted you to know that I did recognize myself in your quote.

Of heirlooms that I think are listed as a type of Beefsteak, that I have tried I prefer...

Red Brandywine, Hill Top, Gregori"s Altai, German Johnson, Rostova, West Virginia 63, Rose, Dixie Golden Giant and Tappy's Finest ..mostly because they did well for me, but Red Brandywine and Rose are favorites because of superb flavor

Of Hybrids that is easy..

My favorite is Bush Big Boy
I also like Big Boy, Big Girl(no longer available) and Jet Star (beefsteak?)
