I'm trying to figure out which varieties to grow next year, while the flavours are still fresh in my mind, and I can still do some taste comparisons .
It appears that I prefer Maglia Rosa to Blush at the beginning of the season, but now I prefer the taste of Blush to Maglia Rosa, so I will have to grow both next year. Taste is delicious. It seemed to take a bit of a break and I thought it was not very productive, but then it got a second wind and is producing like crazy! At lunch today, I gave it a run for its money with Bulgarian Triumph. Both taste sweet and delicious and I will probably grow both next year. Marzano Fire has produced lots of beautiful paste tomatoes which I am freezing for sauce making (on a cool day). It had some BER at first, but fortunately has grown out of that and is now giving me lots of perfect tomatoes. I think it will be back next year. I'm not sure about Spike. Although the plant is beautiful and compact, and the fruit is very tasty, catching them before they rot is proving to be difficult. If I grow it again, I think I would have to grow it in a container on the deck so that I could check it every day. Red Lithium is doing very well, producing lots of boat-shaped maters that don't rot in a hurry when stored in the basement . I wasn't fair to Orange Capresse and Cherry Roma. Due to space constraints I grew both in the flower garden, far away from my veggie garden. I only managed to taste one of each, and the chippies ate the rest . Linda |
