I can't wait to see how this 'grows out'. Maybe next year I can get in on the fun. Since this is my first year growing OP 'maters I'm following everything with great interest (and a whole lot of laughs too!)

Is SS supposed to be potato leafed or other leaf? It would be good to post a picture, description, etc. so all participants will know what to look for in results for any, like me, who have never met one in person. Excuse me if I am missing the point here somehow?

from the SH...
I'm under the impression that SS will be reg. leaf
as thats what parent Big Zac was ~

Correct me if I'm wrong Bully ?!?

I went back and read the whole original thread at GW. What a hoot.

I'm sorry I missed it last fall, I would have loved to grow out some Sad Sac.

I look forward to hearing the results! And, of course, updates on any special ops conducted to neutralize competitive insurgents.

well, weve got some colder than nice temps coming up soon, but im out of lights right now. My fiance said last winter (I was in CA) seeds would sprout, get about 6" tall, and freeze dead. Well, its spring now, and ive got a cover to put over the coldframe if frosts threaten.
sad sac and several others have started their lives outside in a frame. Ill look this weekend to see if theyve sprouted. Ive never tried to raise seedlings like this, but im hoping itll select for the toughest

here goes nothing!

Marty (soeur),

I have saved Big Zac seeds totally by accident. Someone asked me to save seeds from one of my BZ largest toms but later decided he did not want them when I told him they may not come true. Bully later posted he was naming them Sad Sac and I thought , wow, I got a million of them already (well not quite).

If you would like to get in on the fun (and Bully approves)send me your address via Private Message. My seeds will no doubt be MUCH LARGER tomatoes than Bullys.

(if I end up in the river with cement shoes on I know Bully's tomato mafiosi carried out his bidding to get rid of all competition

I also have an article written by the great lady herself (Minnie Z. developer of Big Zac) outlining how to grow record tomatoes. If I can find it I will take notes and pass them on to you.

By the way Big Zac taste great to me.

I just assumed all would RL..I guess we'll find out.

None of mine appear rugose but those first tiny true leaves can appear 'hairy'

As far as I concerned all saved big zac seeds are sad sac no matter where they come from.
