Default Very pleased with Pink Ping Pong and Purple Bumblebee

I tried a bunch of saladettes this year in containers, and am very pleased with them. Two new ones are producing large quantities of tasty tomatoes - Pink Ping Pong is great, and Purple Bumblebee (a smaller fruit) right behind it.

Jaunne Flamme is still the top producer, though Tangerine Ailsa Craig is right behind it.

And even better, the squirrels haven't touched a single saladette.

I love Pink Ping Pong and found some at the local nursery. One of the plants labeled PPP was potato leaf. I bought it just for fun thinking it had been mislabeled.

Turns out the potato leaf plant is producing fruit like Pink Ping Pong. I have saved seed to see if this the F1 will also be potato leaf.

Pink Ping Pong is a really good tomato. There is a yellow variety too, but I haven't tried it.

I like the sound of Pink Ping Pong. I think Yellow Ping Pong is supposed to be even earlier. Anyone ever tried it? Sand Hill Preservation Center carries it. Here are the descriptions they give of both tomatoes:

"Yellow Ping Pong- Early, Indeterminate, very large, yellow cherry. Yellow version of Pink Ping Pong. Pkt. $1.25 Certified Organic Seed"

"Pink Ping Pong- Mid-season, Indeterminate, Regular Leaf, large yield of pink round fruits, about 3 to 4 oz, mild taste with sweetness. Seeds collected by Andrew Rahart of New York who also collected seeds for what’s known as Andrew Rahart Jumbo Red and for Myona. Pkt. $1.75 Certified Organic Seed SOLD OUT FOR 2019"

I tried Purple Bumble Bee once. My friend loved it. I wasn't as much of a fan. They were crunchy (and that's not really my thing, even for cereal, but I guess I do like crunchy cucumbers and pickles; maybe I'd like them in stir fry). Maybe I'll pickle some of them some day and see what I think.

Great photo! Pink Ping Pong and Jaune Flamme are two of my favorite saladettes... but I didn’t grow either this year. I’m trying Jade Pink Round and a white one called New Moon instead. Hope I won’t regret my choices!
