A Tabasco story
Tabasco's are a good pepper. They are not my favorite raw, but dehydrated and later ground into powder it makes the perfect pepper for me. Around Feb when I start beginning to germinate things, I noticed I had failed to stash any Tabasco seeds.
This is a small town and nobody carries Tabasco seeds. So I figured, let me try and germinate some from my dehydrated stash: I figured it wouldn't hurt to try, but no way would they pop after the heat they sat through being dehydrated and the additional time spent in the bags.. maybe a couple years old Sure enough though: I guess they are tougher than I gave them credit for. |

That's great! Three years ago I germinated a seed from a packet of Domino's crushed peppers and grew the plant. It was very thin skinned and easy to make into powder. I couldn't get other brands' seeds to germinate, but I didn't try too hard.

The picture I used for my avatar over there <<< is a 4.5' tall tabasco pepper plant. I still have seeds from it saved in 2014.

I love to scrounge seeds from everywhere and try them. Adds a little mystery. I almost strained a jar of store purchased ghost pepper salsa someone gave me, to see if those seeds would germinate. I didn't end up trying it though. But I wonder if it would have worked???? |

The Domino's peppers looked like mini cayenne peppers. They were 2 - 3" long.

Depends on how the peppers were dried or whether the seeds (as in the salsa) were cooked. Heat kills the germ. But there are dried peppers that weren't heat dried. Those should germinate nicely.
