Default Mid-West Tomato Fest results

Another fairly typical taste test: with twenty-eight varieties, twenty-two received votes for first, second or third favorite. Having the Fest out in the boonies didn't help the numbers of varieties or attendees, but 30-40 people gave their opinion.

A clear winner was a first time tomato in my garden...Kolb. Tied for second was Black Cherry and Lemon Boy

It looks as though the tasters were taking their job seriously and trying to be good judges of flavor.
I am sure that they all had a great time. Such a fun way to spend the day.

I am going to have to look up Kolb now

Nice photos Paul. Sounds like a great time was had by those that did get a chance to make it. 22/28 varieties getting a vote for top three says a lot about the quality of the tomatoes brought!

So, what were the 6 that folks weren't as fond of?

No votes received: Goliath (others this year were excellent, this one this time was not so good),Grightmire's Pride (a very sweet heart, this was a tangy group), an unknown salad (which was supposed to be a German Giant but wasn't),Depp's Pink Firefly,Lescana Romanian Heart, Stump of the World.

I think there were too many varieties for a small group and choices had to be made. Some tomatoes may have suffered from excess rainfall and had washed out flavor. But that's what a taste test is all about.

I am flabbergasted that Stump and Grightmire's didnt get a vote. In my growing conditions they are both outstanding. Wow!

This is what effected my tomatoes this year.... all had the watered down, washed out flavor..... Cherokee Purple, Summertime Gold, Big Beef, even Cuostralee were all bleh.
End of the season fruit was much better flavor.
