So I found this Pineapple X CH Purple tomato on the same plant that has been producing the pink tomatoes that I've already posted. This one is very much like a Pineapple. It tastes very nice. It is very fruity. It's just as large as the pinks. I've already saved seeds from it. Now it will be interesting to see what the remaining unripe fruit on this plant will produce.

Have you had pink ones on the same plant or is it the first ripe tomato on that particular plant?

Default Four More PFs

These four PF tomatoes ripened faster than I expected.
The first two were picked on 8/7 and the others on 8/8.

2-100_1959.jpg
3-100_1960.jpg
4-100_1961.jpg

So far there have been five fruits averaging 18 2/3 ounces each.

There are several more big ones coming.

PF

The four fruits in the preceding post were tasted today, August 9.
I'm sorry to report that they were extremely bland, virtually tasteless.
There was no improvement on the initial evaluation in post 91.

Default CHP.F

August 10, 2014

The wait comes to an end. CHP.F gave up a fruit today which was
both over-ripe at the bottom

2-CHP.F-Bottom.jpg

and under-ripe at the top.

3-CHP.F-Top.jpg

It was badly cracked, bruised and zippered. It offered little flesh to sample. BUT, that little
bit was quite tasty. For such an ugly fruit, the taste was a big - and pleasant - surprise.

1-100_1988.jpg

I'm hoping that subsequent fruit will look as good as this one tasted. If it does,
I'll plant this one again.

I'll have seeds for both P.F and CHP.F if you want them.

no pink ones yet, they have all been yellow/red striped, there are a few green ones on there though so no telling what those will be yet. i'm almost certain it's big rainbow, i kept the chpxpine fairly separate from the others. i'll check back in once more have ripened

Thanks for the reports everyone.
It's good to at least see that flavor is coming along on some of the produce.
I also got my first ripe produce from the Cherokee Puple X Pineapple.
Most of the still unripened fruit on the plant are much like the smaller beefsteak
in the photos here.
Not bad looking fruit. The larger tomato in this picture is more ripe than the smaller
so I tasted that one and hope to try the other in a day or three. Overall, the texture
and taste of this guy was pretty good! It was tomatoey, not fruity and actually a bit salty.
The ripe fruit is firm not soft and on the pallete was not at all mushy. I give it
a 7 out of 10 for the combination of flavor and texture. If the forthcoming
CHP X Pineapple taste like this, I will save seeds

The mark at the top right quarter of the smaller tomato
below, is where it was jammed up
against the stake by the weight of the other fruit.

Default CHP.F

August 13, 2014

Here are a couple CHP.F's I picked today (along with another P.F, which weighed 14.875 ounces.

The bottom one, weighed 22.625 ounces and the top one 18.875 ounces.

I tasted the top tomato and it was very nice - smooth and flavorful but not sharp or overly sweet. I saved seeds from this one for next year.
29-100_2021.jpg 30-100_2022.jpg

I've had six fruits from P.F ranging from 14.875 to 19.75 ounces and averaging 17.563 ounces. The first arrived on August 5. I don't plan to grow the resulting seeds in 2015.

I've had three fruits from CHP.F ranging from 10.5 to 22.625 ounces and averaging 17.333 ounces. The first arrived on August 10. I do plan to grow this one's seeds next year.

Yell if you want seeds returned to you.

A couple more Pineapple X Cherokee P. from the same plant.
Interesting that the first 2 dark pink fruit from this plant were the odd balls. This plant now seems to be producing only these more pineapplish variety.
The taste is still good. Very much the same description as dinca just described his CH Purple X Pineapple in the previous post "very nice - smooth and flavorful but not sharp or overly sweet."

The one on the lft is not quite ripe yet so I've only tried the one on the left. It was enjoyable. Not tomatoey but a taste all it's own. Mildly sweet, nice texture.

Dinca thanks for Post#115. Great pics and good info.

Yes, if you have seeds from anything you or anybody think are worthwhile, I'd like to try some. When the growing season's over we can talk about seeds.

Default P.F

August 18, 2014

Today I pulled four more fruits from P.F. One came apart in my hand and the other three went donated to the food closet. One was very unique - sorry I had no camera with me - in that it had thin and faint orange and yellow stripes that swirled across the bottom of the tomato. It was quite beautiful and I'll be on the lookout for another.

So here is the first of the Chp x pineapples to ripen

The shoulders were still greenish, and the bottom was completely ripe.

The flavor was subtle almost too light there was little to no sweetness or acidity but there was a salty/tomatoey flavor. It was ok but nothing spectacular.. there was a substantial core which made up 1/3 of this tomato and it was wholly inedible.
the seed locules were smallish but and oddly there were quite a few of the seeds that appeared to be embedded into the flesh. I'd estimate the tomato to be about 1.5lb

Edit: On further inspection there was quite a few internal cavities because of the cat facing.
