now that they are in the ground they are growing well and blooming despite the cool wet weather. Looks like blunt hearts are in the majority with 5/7 plants that have fruit so far being hearts including BOTH of the oldest potato leaf plants!

One week later, growing pretty well despite the cool temps here. It is supposed to get nice and warm this week so that should help get things rolling. The younger plants are all blooming and starting to set fruit and I wonder if the blunt hearts will continue to be in the majority. Not knowing what they will ripen to look like is killing me I will admit. I expect the majority of the LPH crosses to be pink but I could well be wrong. so far 2/6 Potato leaf plants are setting blunt hearts so that is wonderful to me. There are still 4 more PL plants that are younger and are blooming but have not set any fruit yet.
The largest fruits in the photo's were from blooms that were pollinated between 48 and 52 days from sowing the seeds. It is now Day 88 from sowing (planting the seed, not setting out plants) and I am guessing I will have ripe fruits by about the second week in July. Seems pretty darn early to me for a big tomato so I'm happy about that.

July 5, 2014. And the first blush on a fruit in my garden for the year is this big heart. It is on the plant I labelled F2 Ludmilla's pink heart x Captain Lucky Regular Leaf #7
It is a big smooth blunt heart on one of the smaller RL plants, I would guess about one pound in weight and the color is looking like it might be Orange! hard to tell quite yet. Anyway, I am so excited to taste it and it is very early for a big tomato. Seed was sown March 20 so March 20 to July 5 is only 108 days. Several more coming along soon, including the potato leaf hearts but none are blushing yet.
So pleased with my babies so far.

That's a beaut KarenO!

What to do when you don't know the colour? I know it would (and will) drive me crazy, wanting to pick the fruit when it is green or orange or some other colour(s) that might or might not be the final thing... What will you do?

5 days from blush to ripe in general. it is still very firm. I can tell a ripe tomato blindfolded so I will know when it's ready just by touch.

softening and almost ripe by feel... and check out the colour Captain lucky, a tri-coloured tomato is the Daddy and unless this fruit is ripening very strangely and unevenly, I believe it is a tri coloured regular leaf heart. Interestingly the plant is the smallest of all my F2's and has the first ripe tomato on it. If it tastes as good as it looks, this is exciting as it is very early. I sowed the seed for this tomato 110 days ago exactly.

The colour is gorgeous! And 110 days is fantastic for a large fruit - especially one that promises to be tasty!
Being a smaller plant, that puts its energy into early fruit instead of vines and leaves, is really a desirable trait as well... there's a niche for this tomato.

Be sure to take pictures to post when you slice it! Looking forward to seeing what it looks like inside! Flavor should be outstanding with those parents!
