Here are my peppers today. Do you guys fertilize or do anything other than water at this point?

I start fertilizing 1/4 strength when the plants have about 4-5 sets of true leaves with a liquid fertilizer. This year I'm trying seaweed/kelp by Age Old.

I'm also trying something new to me - pruning a few of the larger leaves to promote bushiness and give the other plants a chance for more light since they're all crowded in. I'm planning another pruning near the end of April since I pruned the end of March. Always the experiment.

I'm comparing prune/no prune of the Chinense plants and hope to see if there's any difference in pepper production. I've seen other's results of their huge plants, just don't know if there's any more peppers produced.

When I transplant to pots or in ground, I add 1/2 strength fertilizer. When they start to flower, I add other stuff to the kelp, etc.

I think I have some of that Alaska fish emulsion. Will that work? Also, I have read to use Epson salt. Read somewhere else about bone meal.

What do you guys use?

These seedlings are in MetroMix 360.

Fish emulsion works great, too, for seedlings.

When peppers/tomatoes/eggplant plants are planted in the soil, I usually add a few granulars to the hole like Epsom salts, bone meal, cornmeal, powdered milk (a maybe $$$), and dried kelp. That should keep the transplants happy for a couple of weeks.

Your soil mix is a great medium to use.

This year I'm using Roots Organic mix with Happy Frog.

I have picked out the 10 peppers that I will be growing. I am going to re-pot just those 10.

Should I stick with just MetroMix 360 or a mixture...? I have happy frog and worm compost.

I have at least two more months before these will be in their final pot and outside.

Nevermind: I just went ahead and used the metromix 360. I don't want them getting too much of a head start!

Here is a new shot. For some reason some of the leaves look yellow. It is just my camera phone.

I decided to try something different with the 10 that I picked out. I pruned the middle stem out of each of them.
Curious how they do...

About your pinching the stem out of the plants. I've read about doing that as a way to make the plants branch out and get very bushy and even increase yields. I suppose more branches=more leaves=more energy=more fruit?

I was eating one of those smallish sweet red pepper in December and casually tossed a seed into a Gerber Daisy growing on the kitchen table. Maybe 10 days layer I noticed a little seedling growing, so I plucked it out and put into a cup with some mix and put it in a sunny window. The little plant grew decently. After getting 3 sets of true leaves I decided to pinch out the main stem, put it under the grow light to see what would happen (that was early-mid January). By mid-late February the little tiny buds where each leaf met the main stem were starting to grow larger. By mid March the little leaves at those ★★★★★★★★s were starting to actually open. Now at the end of march, where each little bud was opening are small branches with small-medium leaves. I actually can see some flowers developing which I'll pinch off when they get a bit larger since it will be sometime before this thing gets put into a pot on the deck.

Bottom line at least the branching out part worked. We'll see about production. I'm sure others do this all the time--the one thing I was surprised about was how long it took to develop those side branches. So if I were to do this with all my peppers I'd have to start them a couple months early I'd reckon.

Curious how yours do.

This is the first time I have done it so I will document the progress. I will plant at the end of May, so I have two months.
