What's going to matter is compaction, if you have too much, the bags will not drain adequately. I don't believe the Viagrow's drain holes are positioned all that well, or are there enough of them to properly drain a high porosity HP, must less something with compost.
Myself, I don't want compost in my pots. First and foremost, because it presents too many variables. |

Yep I am sitting here trying to do the math on the recipe. Scale it back some and see where i end up. I don't have a problem pulling the trigger with in reason. Plus the fact i have never tried a grow bag. Now Worth has talked me into planting the 20x40 as well. I am wondering what else i can do to that space before i plant everything. Like I said I have almost the whole yard of compost mixed into it now. You can see whats left of the compost at the top of the picture. I have done nothing else to it. Yep this has been a fast thread... Im trying to get caught up! Last edited by MrSalvage; April 15, 2016 at 09:27 PM. Reason: Forgot the quote... |

Does it have worms?
If so keep putting leaves on top they will build it for you. Soil doesn't have to be black to grow vegetables it just can't be potter's clay. This is why I have let sand wash into mine. Worth |

In another thread I think it was you that asked about sodden ashes.
Do this only if you soil is way acidic. Wood ashes will add potash but it will also make it alkaline. |

Last year I used Wonder Soil in my grow bags. I'm not 100% certain how many blocks I bought, but I think it was eight. I have one leftover and I filled six 10 gallon and 12 five gallon bags. I'm actually re-using quite a bit of it this year.
As you noted, you will need to fertilize regularly if you go this route. |

I have one of the rapid test kits here that do all the different tests. I think I can do 10 different try's per test beaker for N, Ph, K & P. All i do is look at the darn thing... I know one of these two spots i have will get a nice 20x40 hoop house on it. Maybe not this year but i am off to a good start. |

I am on a phone some how wood turned into sodden.
