All of these are not necessarily in my top 10 but I really must grow them this year...

Lets see..
Mariannas Peace - best overall one for me two years in a row. Rich, luscious and sweet. Brandywine Sudduth - have not grown for last couple of years so need to try again Brandywine OTV - an excellent tangy tomato for me. Prue - love that unique smokey flavor. JD's Special C-Tex if I can round up a seed or two in time Black Cherry - my favorite cherry tomato even if it splits a little too readily. Aunt Gerties Gold - Aunt Gertie always comes through for me in the end. Cherokee Purple - even though I have been disappointed in its size and yield the last two years. Stump of the World - not sure about this one actually - low yield for the last two years. Carbon - very not sure for the same yield reasons. The last three I may pass on, I am trying to cut way back so rather than doing a bad job growing many varieties I would like to do a good job on a few varieties. Scott |

I start with a "must grow every year" list and then add the experiments and varieties that I want to grow out for seed production. My "must grows" include (in no particular order):
Hugh's Lillian's Yellow Heirloom Tiffen Mennonite Aunt Ruby's German Green Nepal Isbell's Golden Colossal Lucky Cross Mayo's Delight Sungold (F1) Cherokee Purple I'll probably add a couple others to the "must grow" list: last year had great success with two (Slankard's, a large pink) and Ernie's Pointed (very similar to, may be same as Opalka?) So even when the experiments don't turn out as well as I hope, I've got a core group of these to provide certain satisfaction. Just thinking about it, I can't wait!!!

"Your top 10 list" thread has ground to a halt, last post a week ago and I have assumed that nobody else wants to play.
I wanted to know which was the most popular variety so I have run them onto a spread sheet and counted them. I had to make some decisions: People who just could not bring themselves to obey the rule for 10 have all been included even if they had 20. I made an exclusion of Tomatoaddict’s other vegetables and herbs, likewise Nctomatoman’s Dwarf cultivars which are excluded because they are not in the public domain. Also included were entries such as ‘player to be chosen’ or similar and ‘other sorts to be grown’ each as a single variety. In all there were 185 entries of which 51 were duplicated, so 134 different varieties. Comments following any selection are as written, I just couldn’t be bothered to remove them! Possible errors: “Aunt Ginny’s” and “Aunt Ginny’s Purple” may be the same plant and makes AGP a 3. If so, let this just be a warning to you for the future to be accurate in your naming. You never know what some ill informed person will do with your data if you don’t put it down properly. Just as well I discovered what KB was early on. Cherokee Purple - of course. FIRST WITH 13 8) Black Cherry 9 Brandywine (suddath) 9 JD’s Special C-Tex 9 Kellogg's Breakfast and/or KBX 9 Sungold 7 Kelloggs Breakfast - always a winner 6 Chapman (Giving it another chance) 5 Green Giant ( haven't tried GMG yet. Is it really better?) 5 Aunt Gerties Gold 4 Brandy Boy 4 Cherokee Green - my fave until Green Giant came along.4 Neves Azorean Red 4 Prudence Purple 4 Tom's Yellow Wonder - this was great. Thanks Tom! 4 Aker's West Virginia 3 Aunt Ruby's German Green 3 Black Fom Tula - always a winner 3 Black Krim 3 Brandywine 3 Carbon 3 Coustralee 3 Galina 3 Green Zebra 3 Grub’s Mystery Green 3 Mortgage Lifter (want to try Estler's this year) 3 Snow White 3 Stupice 3 Amish Paste 2 Aunt Ginny's Purple 2 Beauty King - Brad is the King! 2 Big Zac 2 Bloody Butcher 2 Caspian Pink 2 Dr Lyle I know that's 11, 2 Earl's Faux 2 German Red Strawberry 2 Indian Stripe 2 Kosovo - better than Anna Russian 2 Linnie's Oxheart 2 Lucky Cross 2 Mariannas Peace Rich, luscious and sweet.2 Mazarini 2 New Big Dwarf 2 Old Brooks 2 Ramapo 2 Red Brandywine 2 Red Penna 2 Wes 2 WinsAll, Henderson's 2 Last edited by phreddy; January 24, 2008 at 05:06 AM. So, does this mean that Kellogg's Breakfast effectively gets 15 votes?

Ah yes. I get KBX 9 and Kellogg's Breakfast 7, equal to Sungold. I counted that Kellogg's Breakfast and/or KBX as one vote for each.

Thanks Phreddy, and good idea. Seems I did a similar list of "winners" last year. It was one way I began to learn the favorites here, and therefore what I might want to consider growing. I think JD's is the main newcomer this year since it was pretty new in 2007 and obviously quite a few tried it and liked it. I have it on my 2008 list.

Dcarch, did you also do a sort that listed them in order of preference? The top vote getters, in order?
Thanks! Don

I saw Stump many times! I refuse to make a list it actually makes me face reality and at this point I feel like denial is my only option. I just do not have enough room.
