I got my package yesterday, now is going to take me hours to research all the new things! Thank you so much. I am so glad that the mail is much quicker from Canada to Reno, Nevada than it is Reno to Canada LOL

Hi Heather,

I returned home yesterday from a 2.5 week trip and discovered that your package had arrived! I was so excited to open it! Thank you for including many items from my wish list as well as many surprises and even varieties I have never heard of. I will certainly have fun researching them!

Thank you for your hard work. I would love to participate again next year.

Again thanks for the excellent job and the varieties we receive. Was wondering if we could post any questions we have about a variety and see if we could get an answer from the person who sent it. Since your offer is made on more than one site, not sure how best to do this or if it would be too much trouble.

I do all the research I can on the varieties I don't know but sometime cannot find info.

Kygregg - by all means, go ahead and post questions you have on a variety. I'm sure someone in the forum will be able to answer your question. I won't always been checking the thread after I know all the seeds have been received, so you may wish to contact me privately as well. I do keep records of who sent in seeds, but will not necessarily know who sent in your seeds if a few people sent in the same type. I could always reach out to them with your question and hope they take the time to respond back with info. I don't always hear back, but am happy to contact the people that sent in a particular variety with questions.

First question (my that was fast). I received a variety labeled Irish Candy. Can not find any info. Was wondersing is that could be a spelling error and it could be Isis Candy?

Hi Kygreg,

I have contacted the participant who send in the "Irish Candy" to see if they can provide further info (they were from another forum). The Giant African Pink Paste seeds were sent in from "Casino", who is a member here at t-ville. I'm hoping Casino will see your question and respond with any additional information. I think you're correct, see the link above.

It's one of the many varieties that Joe Bratka bred and he named it just Isis Candy.

I happened to link to an ebay site above when Googling but there are a lot of places that sell seed for Isis Candy. In my Google search I found no Irish Candy,

Thanks Heather and Carolyn; I received Casino and Casino Chips from "casino" last year (2011) and grew the latter variety.

I have Isis Candy but have not grown it to date.

I just heard back from the participant regarding the Irish Candy tomato seeds. Here's the description she provided:

"The plant is indetermine and the tomatoe is a cherry size and its kinda mable in 2 colours of orangie red and yellow. Expect the plant to grow much faster then other tomatoe plants as it did for me and it will get a very tall height well past most other varieties. Very sweet and highly productive cherry tomatoe but is prone to cracking."

As far as source, she mentioned the original source was from a trade labelled "Irish Candy". These seeds are from the plants she grew out. The description sounds an awful lot like Isis Candy though doesn't it? So sorry if you received a mislabelled seed in the swap...might be worth growing out these seeds and the Isis Candy you already have to compare them. Meanwhile, I did a google search and although I couldn't find any info on the seed, I did find "Irish Candy Cherry Tomato" referenced on an heirloom tomato poster. Here's the link

Heather, I too found that poster site and ignored it b'c there was no way to even find the poster that supposedly showed a picture and after doing a lot of Googling I felt that it too was a misspelling of Isis.

What your person describes is spot on for Isis Candy, even down to the the splitting comment, at least as grown by me.

And if I go back to look I lose this post but I think I linked to Tanai's site, well I'll do it again, where Isis Candy seeds can be listed at many seed sites.

There were about 10 seed sources for it in 2011 and who kns how many there will be for 2012 when all the websites and catalogs are updated.

So your seed donor could have gotten it anywhere or even traded for it, but Isis Candy it is, not Irish Candy, which doesn't exist in my opinion.

I am tracking another variety that I could not find info on at first; the label had the donor's SSE id, so I got his email address from the yearbook and contacted him. Turned out to be a nice website: heirloomtomatopatch.com. The variety is Jamiaica.
