Storm of the century all weekend no school in the counties east of Austin.
The stupid GC called and asked for a fire marshal inspection on two buildings this morning they just set Friday before the storm hit.
No time to even work on them.
Plus no one even saw the GC's all day yesterday.
The stupidity of people never ceases to amaze me.
I bet the school is behind it.
They think the schedule can go as is, not considering anything going on.
Fire Marshall inspection not gonna happen.
The rest of the buildings are sitting in a field of mud in a hole with no way to move.
They think they should be ready as scheduled too.
Academia at its finest in representation of stupidity and lack of common sense.
The problem is they think this type of work is for the uneducated, stupid people and should be easy because much of it is manual labor.
Not only that they dont consider that these people have families too and need to protect them.
In reality we take everything we learned in school plus much more and use it in real life situations.
Unlike them, learn and forget.
I spent the better part of yesterday wading in the mud tracing down with a meter the cause of a voltage drop in the wiring.
I found it in a strobe that was bad.
This was not my installation but something the school has had problems with for some time.
A good strobe will have around 2.1 m (million)ohms resistance the bad one was 6.5K (thousand) ohms.
The smaller the number the closer it is to a short circuit.
One ohm is a direct short.
I was looking for a voltage of 9.5 volts and the bad circuit was 3.5.
Something was dragging the voltage down.
No, construction workers aren't thick sculled cave men we deserve a little respect too regardless of what we do.
These jerks expected us stupid low life workers to be out in a storm working while they cowered in their homes during the storm.
Give be a break.
Yes I am ticked.

FEMA , in co operation with the state, should have an office somewhere where you are , to take claims. Then they will send someone/agent to inspect and report back. That was the procedure here last year when hurricane Mathew hit.

FEMA is overwhelmed and asking for help from us common folks.
Boats or anything.

We are thinking of you up here in SC Rockporter- hope that you have something to come home to, and please be careful out there. This forum has been a Godsend for many folks down there who have limited communication with others, and is a testament to the quality of people who inhabit Tomatoville. Positive thoughts and blessings to you and yours!

Ditto from Michigan. Thoughts and prayers from here, too.

Worth, CNN says that immigration status not being considered for shelters, etc.

This is one of the most irresponsible things I have heard yet out of these people.
How would you feel if you had a storm coming in and fear kept you from seeking shelter.
For me this is simply a humanitarian point of view nothing else.

I smell fake news,Worth. there is no way anyone would be checking ID or legal status in the circumstances. there is too much to be done and people to rescue to worry over legal status. That would be inhumane and cruel.

No this was a group of people with an agenda telling these people this.
It wasn't the news telling people this.
Now from the other post about the emergency job.
Where is everyone?
Here I am at 6:50 AM first person on the job.
I opened tbe gait today and closed it yesterday at 5:15 PM.

Default Texas Look Out!

All of you in Texas are in my thoughts.

Rock, I know you're on the road, so you may not see this anytime soon. One thing to keep in mind is that pretty much all gas pumps these days need electricity to run. There may be a small number of gas stations that are on some type of back up power, but these may be few and far between. And those that are open may be restricted to providing fuel to first responders and utility crew vehicles. Hopefully you'll be arriving home with at least a few days worth of generator fuel, and then take SueCT's advice and only use it for the absolutely essential items (fridge/freezer, cpap, and maybe an AC for part of the day).

Safe travels, Rockporter !

If anyone lives in the possible return path of the storm that could potentially turn towards WESTERN AND COASTAL LOUISIANA , please find yourself a safe haven to ride this potential terrible situation out in as early as possible.

Better to be safe than sorry so PLEASE be ready to leave. Assemble what you need to save and don't hesitate to do it while the storm track is still uncertain.

EXACTLY. Thank you for speaking up, Worth!!!

EDIT: Although, as I think about it more, I do realize that one of the big, hairy questions is whether the info they were spreading was, in fact, true. We live in such evil times... and it's NOT a new development. The callousness has been getting more and more entrenched for decades.

Thank you so much for keeping us all posted and worrying about you, specifically, that much less than we otherwise would have been.

I have all of my fingers crossed for luck that all of your surprises getting home are positive ones!!!

Hoping to hear from you soon that you have power and Internet back!

I think there's about 1% of the population that sees the rest of us kind of like ants: As long as there are enough of us left in the hive to get the work done, the death of an individual doesn't matter at all

I wouldn't have expected school bureaucrats to make enough money to be part of that 1%, though. Maybe back to "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity"? Man, that would be some WORLD-CLASS stupidity, though!

Rockporter, we are thinking about you and your husband too.

I know there are many Tomatoville members in the Houston area. I have not seen a post from any of them since before the storm. I sure hope they got out of town to safety somewhere.
