I think i might take those bugs over the abundance of black widows we have out here. But I think i'd take the widows over rattlers

The first time I saw a tussocks cat I thought it looked like a Chinese dragon.
One cool looking caterpillar.

This is the one that got me, twice. The Puss caterpillar.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megalopyge_opercularis

They are quite cute in real life, like a little Cousin It from the Adams family, with long silky hair. Unfortunately, the first time one stung me, I ended up at the hospital with awful shooting pains up my arm.

The second time, I didn't even see the thing. Just picked up a stick and slung it away. The venom (and the pain) made it into my lungs within minutes. By the time I made it to the local clinic, (about eight minutes, tops) I could barely breathe.

I carried an epi pen for years because of these. I don't now, but probably should.

Scary little buggars!

Tom - I be squishing them! Mr. Click will wither in the Chock Full o' Nuts can - wireworms suck. Oh & those puss caterpillars... baaaad news, very allergenic. Worth going to ER if you get touched though I would start w/slapping duct tape or even stickier strapping tape to where the little monster got me (on the way to the ER)

OK now see THIS pretty little boy didn't make me faint. One of many Black Swallowtail caterpillars on my parsley last year.

Ooooh! Love those little guys, Babice. They are so pretty.

They are the only ones that I willingly let eat my plants. I now plant extra because I know they will be coming to dinner. But they only get a couple! (I'm not THAT nice.)

LOL! Ditto! I didn't mess with 'em. I didn't see very much damage. Plus, some of the parsley and stuff I grow just to let go to flower. Then I grow some right outside the back door on the deck for culinary purposes.

These guys are the main reason we keep plenty of Dill around. They love it and the Dill is so prolific we still get plenty.

I grow my parsley away from my maters so they never get a bit of Worm Whipper on 'em - I adore the Black Swallowtail caterpillars - so pretty - they can eat the parsley right on down (it comes back no problem)

We've go Kudzu bugs also. Saw them last summer for the first time. I'm working on removing Kudzu so maybe they won't be back next year.

OK - call me a troglodite - it's true. I can not find my camera charger & I am needing it so this year in the garden. Two eyed click beetle (still in the Chock Full O' Nuts can), TWO types of Tussock caterpillars & now...

The freakin' Burrito or Sushi roll caterpillar. SRSLY.
These boogers cut themselves leaves & make a tube of green that has OPERCULI at the ends. Freakin doors! Greenish caterpillar inside w/yellow mush I think it's eating, not pooping 'cause more mature looking ones have less yellow & more brownish goo (Itake that to be poop, fine, FRASS).

Worth - what in the world are these? Should I be squishing or coddling?

Stormy, you have to get a camera to take some pics of all this stuff. You're like the bug version of Wild Kingdom. I finally broke down and got a new one last night, mainly to record my dwarf tomatoes.

Babice, I would definitely squash that first one before it breeds.
