Not sure what you mean about events and furniture row? I'm only on my second Coke!

I need to visit Furniture Row, so there's a San Marcos trip in the near future. How near, depends on a few variables.

Default Things growing well, up to tube #5

Yesterday was a long day, got lots accomplished. Tubes 6, 7 and 8 will be constructed together and that'll be it, except for a pilot Aeroflo type setup. Hydropump, fittings and all the other goodies will be purchased using plant/tomato sales.

Here's a few views of the new growth.

Maglia in 3 gal container, tried my first one, outstanding. Another permanent spot awarded. I love compact plants with great tasting fruit.

Makes me almost want to put containers on the roof of my house as it is a nice sunny place.
One of the few I have that I wouldn't have to drag a mile of hose to water.

That Gribovsky doesn't have blue streaks, does it? It was one row over from the Ten Hung Tan (Blue?) Chieh. My fruit were a little smaller than yours.

Great thread and although I'm a tiny bit jealous that you have tomatoes already I'm also excited to see all the ripe ones.

Do you plan on ranking them or anything? Which containers do you like best so far? When I used the cloth bags last year they dried out really fast, I plan on using 5gal pickle buckets this year if I ever get time.

I am jealous of your growing gutter system. You have got it down pat. Of course, I am jealous of the tomatoes, too!

Marsha: you're welcome to move next door, my Chinese neighbors have built a pagoda roofed house, and it's big! The best neighbors ever.

Rooftop peppers would be awesome. Is Fred in the ground again? My Fred is doing well. Lanky.

I think it's just a splash of green up top, the way Cosm Volkov gets it sometimes. I'll deem it the Soviet green splash. Other THTC did not have blue streaks, likely just an anomaly.

No plan on ranking them, just reviews of how they taste-grow. 5 gal seems to be the magic number. Bought a bunch of big fabric bags last year, I only set up five of them this year because of the same problem you encountered. This time they will be on drip irrigation via IV infusion set. I lost a lot of tomatoes last year to BER and I can attribute it directly to the fabric bags in the face of my inconsistent watering schedule. Hence the move to sub irrigation, fingers crossed there will be minimal/negligible losses to BER this year.

That is the one. Soviet flavor profile works for me. The ripe one in the pic did not make it indoors. Gribovsky handles cold AND heat with ease. We've had some serious swings in temp and it just keeps on setting fruit.

Real easy to set up, some initial investments but the hands off nature of it really pays dividends down the road. I was using wood initially, it can be done with just cinder blocks and those are cheaper. Give it a shot, you'll dig it.

Gerardo, I swear by applications of CaNi to ward off BER, so easy to put in each gutter.

Awesome, I'll get some next time I'm in SD. I've been cheating and dropping a few granules of 17-17-17 into the tube too.

Yesterday I was moving things around and one of the older plants had broken through the fabric bag and gone full kratky. Beautiful white hairs, very healthy plant. Rapunzel went back into the tube.

Hope those beans work out come summertime. I miss the N train, have a slice in my honor please. Thanks for the tip!

Plan on storing your cal nitrate in a dedicated air-tight container. It sucks water out of the air and turns to goo otherwise.

Very hygroscopic, noted. Thanks.
