They look great Ginny.
I am using full strength MG plant food on the two plants and the two plants are just in seed starting mix. I am pushing it to a certain point of green and then just water. I have noticed it takes more for certain varieties to get this color. You also have to be careful with the temperature and what might not seem enough in cool temperature and low outside lights this time of year and cloudy weather may be too much when the light hits and the temp warms up. It takes about 12 hours under the lights for the leaves to green up again. The rest of the plants are in the MG Natures Care raised bed soil(Green Sack) with perlite mixed in. It is by far the best stuff I have ever used. This year I decided to give each plant its own pot. As far as posting pictures on this thread anyone is welcome to post pitchers here or talk about anything they want. |

Okay I was about to give up but it looks like I am getting some sprouting to happen.
The first picture is a San Marzano the second looks like a Kosovo is coming up. On the plus side I dont have to run all of the lights. I have two running and the other ten turned off. Worth IMG_20160107_15999.jpg IMG_20160107_26369.jpg |

Here is my temperature probes and the heat mat.
The alarm is set to go off at 95 F and it automatically shuts off anyway. Pretty hillbilly setup. Worth IMG_20160107_30480.jpg |

I have noticed something about some new baby seedlings I haven't noticed before.
In the very first few days they take in about 12 hours of light and the leaves close up. Worth |

Yep at least some do or did you already know that?
Not taking any chances San Marzano is in it's new tin can home and it's very own light. I drilled holes all around the sides of the bottom with the drill press for drainage. Yes I have resorted to tin cans, with the European style can opener all I have to do is cut the bottom out and push the plant out. Folks the above pictuer is a step back in time.
Before the advent of Solo Cups and all things plastic this is how many people did it including us. You could raise the little feller in the tin can cut the bottom out shove the plant down more plant it and use the can as a cut worm preventer. It works great. Worth |

You know your right, Kosovo was sprouting so it now has a partner.
The very next thing I do after this is I spray the soil with the hydrogen peroxide solution. Worth IMG_20160108_23385.jpg |

Worth, we used one gallon cans to cover the tomato plants when there was a chance of frost when I was growing up. Also, when I was growing up, people called the cans the size posted in your pictures 303 size cans.

Also, plants need some darkness in 24 hours. In human terms it is like sleeping. I give my seedlings about 12 hours of light early on and then maybe up it to 16 /24. Gardeneer |

I sat up last night with the San Marzano and it didn't do it again. Now on to another observation. Yesterday anyone would have wanted to go ahead and plant out, it was beautiful. Then last night a front came through and it got cold and windy. I had no idea how windy because I set the plants back out on the back porch for their daily sunning. It is protected from most of the wind there. Then I walked out the front door to do something and almost got knocked over from the cold north wind. Worth |
