Actually, the best tomato variety I tasted last year came from you, and was quite unexpected. "County Agent" is just another of those medium-sized reds, but the flavor was exceptional here. Unfortunately, it was grown in my main field and since TSWV infected about 80% of those plants, I didn't save seed or list it. However, I still have 5 seeds from you so will plant them this winter in my greenhouse and get a fresh crop of seed.

I'm glad "Red Barn" did well for you... I know Carolyn considers it to be an over-looked variety (one of, if not the best?, she was able to resurrect from the crosses by Joe's father).

Thanks Deborah for the compliment! But, hold off on ordering Manitoba - I think there are better varieties for our climate. For an early variety, Moravsky Div has been better here, and produces longer.

btw... I want to exchange thoughts re: Edna and Paul. Is your PM working now?

I'm sorry you had to spend so much time dealing with German Customs. It seems the German custom agents have taken an interest in collecting heirloom tomato seeds.
I have now changed my method for sending seeds to Germany.

I think it will be hard for us in the future to get seeds. They seem to get more strict than ever.

I don't know what's actually going on with our customs as there are no restrictions in sending seeds to Germany. From my experience, I can say that I've got all letters from abroad (outside of Europe) WITHOUT customs declaration in an appropriate time, but those WITH declaration took up to 4 weeks. New kind of German bureaucracy, I think. clara

Steve I have a question for you. You have collected some amazing tomatoes. Do you know anyone who is working on a Brandywine and a stripe cross. A nice big tomato. I cant find anything or anyone working in that area. A stump of the world and a stripe would be yummy to.

Thanks Joe, sent you a PM.

I'm sure there are Brandywine X stripes crosses out there but I haven't trialed any of them. I see Tania grew out the F1 of one such cross, http://t.tatianastomatobase.com/wiki...andy_Stripe_F1 but don't know if any following generations were grown.

Since I cant find any striped Brandywine varieties to choose from, then, I agree with you Heritage, this will be a good project for me to start.
Brandywine X with Grand Ma Vinnies yellow and Pink ... sounds good
Brandywine X with Hillbilly ... Yumm

My goal is to have a pretty 8-12 oz (or more) tomato with the flavor of a Brandywine with lots of stripes and has a big production. It has got to have good production not some stingy plant.
Well here I go jumping in with both feet and blind. I am unfamiliar with the genetics of a striped tomato but who cares I will give it a try and maybe get lucky.
