Does Brandyboy taste more like Brandywine or Big Boy?

I would hope it tastes like the 'real thing' Brandywine.. (not that I would not value any good tasting tomato)

Marlynn - I have grown them both. Brandy Boy has the Brandywine taste for sure!! In fact, I can't tell the difference! I grew them side by side and Brandy Boy has a taste every bit as good as Brandywine to me. Big boy has a taste more like Big Beef and Better Boy - IMO

I knew Hudson's reply exactly. So I refrained from comment.
So really, Brandy Boy is a hybrid with heirloom/OP taste. But probably more productive than OP. This is a win win situation.

Haha - Gardeneer - you know me well! Really - There is no pressure what-so-ever from anyone for me to plant Brandy Boy rather that Brandywine Sudduth, other Brandywine strains or any variety at all! I plant 20 Brandy Boy plants, 2 Brandywine Cowlicks and 2 Brandywine Sudduth for a reason. And the reason does not go beyond taste, productivity and disease resistance!! The best performers EARN their space in my GH !!!

Very nice. You convinced me to give BB a try this year.
So far, it's running neck and neck with Sudduth. I'm excited to see how it goes. 31 days from seed |

Randall, you seem to have quite a seedling in that tiny solo cup.. Isn't yours about to jump out of the prison?!
![]() Mine are usually in cartons, and the ones in smaller containers show definite signs of distress way before getting that big.. |

Brandysweet Plum is a tasty bigish cherry for us, but we get about 50 per plant. Seeing how your BB's do, I expect you could get better yield.

They should be able to go into the dirt in 2 more weeks or so. They're chomping at the bit, though. Last edited by Randall; April 21, 2017 at 05:19 PM. Reason: addition |

Hudson, you always have the most beautiful pictures of big healthy plants... :-)
I will soon have some ripe BB to compare with ripe Brandywine Sudduth. The 4 big ones on the left are BB and a couple below the yellow cherries are Brandywine Sudduth. Cant wait to taste test them side by side. The Big Beefs were planted later so have a ways to go. ![]() Ginny Last edited by Fiishergurl; April 21, 2017 at 04:58 PM. |
