Thanks everybody for your advice.
Alas he does not know the brand. Current versions are at least 5 years old purchased at local hardware store. He did comment that they require maintenance- periodic greasing of the bearings.
As it is just vibration transferred to the ground, you could spend an hour and build a dozen for almost no cost.
This is in Japanese, but the pictures are all you really need.
