Default Growing Onions in CA - 2nd planting question

We have been harvesting our Onions that we started from seed last year. My question is if its possible to get a 2nd crop if i started seeds now and hope to harvest before the end of the year. Would our summer heat be to much of a problem to keep the plants growing through the hot summers?

Its possible just put on nice thick layer of straw and keep the soil moist. If they struggle you can always shade them.
