Alex,
Very nice list! When did you start your super hots? I bought Yellow Manzano last year and grew it, and it produced red pods with black seeds. So I guess it was NOT a Yellow Manzano. Oh well, we know crosses or mixups happen. ![]() My super hot list now includes the following: Nepalese Bell (not sure if this one qualifies as super hot) Peru Yellow Cumari Bhut Jolokia Peach Bhut Jolokia White Bhut Jolokia Chocolate Jamaican Hot Chocolate Habanero Orange Habanero Red Kara Bobodisoulou Huambo Kapilme Laiti Wati Lome Lumley Mahem Lumley The last 9 varieties are from South Africa. I am also growing Cambuci, but I thought it was a mild one - ? Tatiana

I read all these lists and was hoping to see some of you were growing the Datil pepper. It is a Florida heirloom that has been grown here for 300 years. It has the heat of a habenero but also has a sweeter fruity element.

One of my favorite hot peppers is Malaqueta-its from Brazil.

Tania,
Nice list and yes you are correct the Cambuci is not really a super hot, nor is the Jalepeno, but I included it because my next batch will be the sweet peppers. I start the super hots in early January. This year the start date was the 9th. I used to eat some of the hot ones raw but my stomach can no longer tolerate the heat. Now I grow them just for fun and either give away the fruit or grind them and use the powder to spice up dishes. I'm not sure if the Yellow Manzano will be true to type, since I got the seeds in a trade. However, the Aji Largo is also a pubescens with black seeds and is quite a nice pepper. More than one of my Yellow Manzano's has sprouted and I also have some extra White Bullet Habanero that came up. I can give you one of each at the Ladner Seedy Saturday if you like. Your South African selection looks quite interesting. Where did you source them from? Kayrobbins, I have tried to grow the Datil several times without success, however, several years ago I received some seeds form a lady from Trinidad that she called a flavour pepper. It looks exactly like a Datil and the flavour is as you describe it. I have some fresh seed from last year that I can share if anyone is interested. Alex

The Datil does require a long growing season so that may have been your problem. If anyone wants to try them I would be glad to share them if they send a SASE.

You definitely need a fatali in there, Tania. One of my favorite superhots.
Also, do I see a scotch bonnet in there - my friends love those - a less hot superhot that is very popular. |

Alex,
Thank you for the great offer - yes, I'd love to get them, if you have extras. We'll be in Ladner, it will be so good to see you there! I will have some extra hot pepper seedlings that I can bring for you. I will have a list in a week or so, but for now I over-seeded the following, so we should have enough to share: Serrano Huasteca Smooth Orange Pusa Sadabahar Ram's Horn and among sweets, if you need any: Gamba Di Napoli Ise Rabbit Mouth Armenian Yellow All the above seeds are from IA SSE HF 13.
