Default Well water vs. City water ???

I have only used well water on my plants for years but, because of some unfortunate logistics, I may have to start using city water to irrigate some container grown tomatoes. Should I be concerned about chlorine and other chemicals in city water harming my plants? Or could it be that, as usual, I'm making a mountain out of a molehill?

If your worried about the chlorine in the water fill some large containers and let them sit 24 hours before using it to water your plants. If however your city supply is using chloramine instead of chlorine that won't work. I've always adhered to the idea that the fewer chemicals I'm putting on my plants is the best way to go.

Humic Acid or Citric Acid will tie up chloramine.

Here is a good source for Leonardite (Humic Acid) called Optimize from the John and Bob folks:

I use this along with their BioSol Nourish product.

We have used well water for many years now, but for many years in many cities; I used city water in my garden. I never detected a difference.

I have never noticed a difference either. I had only city water at the old house and here I use city water through the winter if I need it because my well water/pump is shut down and winterized until April. You might notice a difference in your water bill though!

Ha! Good one Shelley. We had a drought two years ago and I really noticed.

When I used city water in Louisiana, it added almost $100.00 per month to my water bill when I grew a garden.
