I sent out a lot of seeds with trades and my SASE offer last year, and would appreciate it if anyone who got tomato or pepper seeds from me who grew them this year let me know how they did regarding germination and being true to type? If there is a problem with something I don't want to send more of them out when this years trading season starts.
I thought of this when I started going through my list of varieties to note who I got things from so I can let people know how they did for me this year, and let the few where I appear to have crossed seeds or somthing not true to type know. I had 15 rogue varieties out of 200+ started, some were not true to leaf type and didn't get planted and others have shown up with the wrong fruit size, type or color. Overall I didn't think the crossing rate was bad at all, three of those were commercial seeds from large vendors who I'll let know. Thanks! |

Thanks! Hope they did well for you, I'm personally surprised at how people like the peach fuzz types, but they are all pretty sweet.
I'm not looking for percentages, just to know if they germinated and turned out to be what they were supposed to be so if I've got a problem I can either do a germination test or if they didn't come true I can not send more out until I've grown them out again. Carolyn's comments about people passing the wrong seeds of a variety around have made me want to be a bit more cautious and try to be proactive. |

Everything germinated well, but unfortunately when I went on vacation, the person left in charge of watering didn't get the "tomatoes don't like to be soaking wet all the time" so a lot of the little plants didn't make it.
I've got 2 isis candys and 2 ghost cherrys that haven't put off any fruit yet, my zapotec plant has lots of pleated green tomatoes and the Trinidad scorpion is small but has that chinense-appearance. The Constoluto Genovese, Russo's Sicilian Togetta, great white and Tobago Scotch bonnet are the varieties that didn't make it, but I held onto a couple seeds of each to try again next year. I'd like to thank you again for your generous offer!

Mark - you shared your Carbon tomato seeds plus other hot peppers. The Carbon is one of my favorites for this year and will be planted again next year. I only planted 6 seeds and the germination was 100%.
The hot peppers are slow to flower, and slow to germinate. Will let you know when I get peppers! The heat and drought have not been kind to us this year. Thanks for introducing me to Carbon. Good color. Good flavor. One of my true favorites! |

Mark
My Trinidad Scorpion grew to almost three feet tall and very big around. Peppers were huge and the heat was incredible. I picked 157 from one plant and there are still 50 or more that are small and green on the plant.Even though I do water them now, it seems that 112 degrees daytime temps are too much for them.True to type and will grow again next year. thanks again ron |

Excellent, thanks everyone!
Cornbreadlouie, I usually have the opposit problem, I leave a page of instructions about what to water and how and find them all dried up when I get back. Let me know if you have problems with those next season, the three tomatoes are all ones I repeated this year and have already saved seed from this season as well. Pretty sure I have a lot of the Tobago Sweet Scotch Bonnet as well. Ron, 112 is probably too hot for anything but eggplants! Glad to hear they did well and you survived the scorpion's sting.

Hi Mark! The Lemon Drops are awesome. True to type and I can't believe how productive that plant is. It is more low spreading than I expected so it got a little crowded in there with my dwarfs, but is doing phenomenally well. I thought I sent you a pm about them, but glad you started this thread. The Tobago Seasoning didn't get in ground until much later, so I don't have anything to harvest yet. Thanks again!

You did send a PM about the lemon drops, thanks! This was my general 'I would like to know if there were any problems' request.
I've gotten a few seed requests already and wanted to make sure I didn't have any known problem varieties in last years seeds before putting together this years list. |

Mark,
Thanks again for a great trade. It appears from your photos that Spears Tennessee Green grew true, I hope it tasted as well as it looked. I started seed of Bhut Jolokia Chocolate, Trinidad 7-pot Douglah, Roberto’s Cuban Seasoning, and Tobago Sweet Scotch Bonnet. Trinidad 7-pot Douglah and Tobago Sweet Scotch Bonnet appear true to color, shape and taste. The Roberto's are being grown at another garden site and I'll have to report on this one later. The one that doesn't appear to be true is Bhut Jolokia Chocolate. They are red and I'm not sure they exhibit the Bhut Jolokia characteristics. I think this may be a hybrid. Any input you have is appreciated. |

Spears is a great GWR, thanks for that one!
Sorry about the chocolate! It could be a cross, or it may have been a seed mixup on my part or just a stray seed. That looks a bit like one of the bhut crosses I had growing last year, is it only about 3" long and does it have the bhut flavor and heat? I had recieved some crosses from another pepper grower last year as an option for my prospective sauce business. It has the characteristic bhut heat profile but in a smaller but much more productive pepper. I'm growing it side by side with the NMSU bhut strain this year for comparison. I'm going to try to get cracking on finishing my tomato pictures next week and switch over to peppers soon... |

Mark, no need for apologies. The fruit are averaging about 2.25". The fruit size could be a result of pot size, I have them in 3 gallon pots. I can't speak to the heat or flavor compared to Bhut Jolokia as I've never grown or tasted one before. I do know these are pretty darned hot, a sampled a little sliver and it lit up my mouth.
I'm sending a dozen fruit off with my nephew who will share them with folks at work and hopefully I'll get some feedback next week. Did you grow any of the rocoto's? I've got 1 growing and it has about a half dozen fruit on it. |

Mark - I didn't get everything into the ground this year from my choices, and a few I did get in died due to a cold night, but New Big Dwarf had good germination and grew true to type. As did the KBX tomato. Most of my seeds germinated at approximately 75 - 90%. I enjoyed both of those. Super Marmande and Wisconsin 55 are going in for me next year. Those are the two I know of... I have to check my seed box to determine if there were any others from you. Thank you again! I appreciate it - especially today. Today was a tomato sauce canning day.
