Default landscaping cloth as a weed barrier?

We have a large roll of the commercial landscaping cloth. If we were to run this on the ground with our soaker hoses underneath, and punch the plants in along the rows, would that set-up hurt our growth in any way?? Essentially, there would be no visable soil, even in the walking rows between the plants.

Our thought was that this would keep us from weeding anything, and also not allow rain water to splash the soil up onto the leaves during rains.
