I always had wetting problems until I switched to Miracle Grow Moisture Control Potting Soil, which wets like a champ. It's a bit coarse, so I sift it through a 1/4" screen to remove larger bits, and then mix it 50/50 with MG Seed Starting mix. It just sucks up water, and stays moist longer than anything else I tried.

The hot water worked like a champ. Thanks gang. I had several bags and hate returning things; its usually a hassle.

I saw some pro-mix bx at a feed & seed store. They want 39.99 for
a bale of it. Have to think about that one. I did buy vermiculite for
$17 (4 cu.feet)

wow the one with biofungacide we can get for $25-31 but $39 is straight list - it will make about 36 gallons of mix when broken up properly

I though it was very expensive too. I'm going to see if I can find it
somewhere else.

I get a bale of Sunshine mix, number 1 for about $35 at Crop Production Services here in Tucson. I also ask them when I go if they have broken bags of vermiculite and get that for about 1/2 the price of a reg. bag. Also I saw perlite, and Vermiculite at Home Depot the other day.
