Which disease.

You'd think I'd have learnt by now, but I am rubbish at identifying diseases, every year I umm and aah and dither, unsure what ailment has struck my plants.

Here are two photos, underside and overside of an infected leaf. The patches penetrate right through in all incidences that I can find. The necrotic patches are very dry and crispy in dry weather, silvery/brown in colour. The infections are localised to three plants, adjacent to one another and appear on old and new leaves, but only mature ones. No markings on fruit or stems, but some flowers have dropped, but it was over 30ºC/90ºF last week.

Any ideas?

Looks like Early Blight or Gray Leaf Mold, but those usually
affect the stems, too. I would guess a fungus, anyway.

I haven't seen any of the yellowing I usually see with early blight. The stems are completely healthy.

I was going to say it looked like a mold on that tip.

Has it been wet there? Do you plants have good air flow/space?

I would pull off the infected leaves and spray a fungal spray like Serenade.

That's what worked for me when I had something like that on some bottom leaves a few years back.

It's been a very dry year so far, but this did appear immediately after the only rainy day we've had since April. The plants have good clearance for air circulation, but some leaves have been rolling in the heat, which may have made them more susceptible to the subsequent damp.

Early blight is just starting to show its head in my crop now too. It's tough growing tomatoes sometimes.

Did the sun come out brightly after the rain?

While the tip looks like mold (probably from water puddling). . .

the scorched marks look just like what happened when I sprayed once in the morning. . . . I really drenched my plants. . . and then the sun came out strong and "burned" the residual wetness that was hanging on the leaf edges. It had the exact same silver-y see through look.

I'm wondering if really direct sun on water puddling could have the same effect.

Don't think it's sun scorch, the rain was followed by a cloudy but dry day.
