Default Growing Reed Avacados

I was just given a 3 1/2 ft tall Reed avacado tree and have no idea how to care for it. It is a decendant of a historical tree in Ocean Beach,Ca. The mother tree has a plaque on it stating that it's historical and over 100 years old. It's over 50 ft. tall and grows in mostly shade. I repotted it in reg. potting soil in a 5 gallon pot for now and seems to love it. It perked up after a couple hours. I have it on the south facing side of house under part shade. The larger leaves are raggity looking like they are losing leaves but has alot of new growth. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much.
