Yesterday's Harvest

I had my best harvest ever from the garden yesterday -- cucumbers, squash, bell peppers and tomatoes. I picked enough tomatoes for a batch of tomato sauce then went back out this morning and got enough tomatoes for a second batch of sauce.

Nice pics, Jerry- very colorful! We're in asparagus/broccoli/cabbage/spinach/lettuce/scallion/celery mode here. None of the warm weather veggies are close to being ready yet...can't wait for the tomatoes to kick into high gear!

You are jealous now, but the fact that you have a single garden season makes me jealous. Down here in Texas, our plants are done by late June or early July, and we have a very small window on getting a fall garden season planted. There are tradeoffs everywhere, except some very small regions. I wish that when I lived back in Silicon Valley, I had taken more time to do actual gardening. That climate is so perfect growing some awesome maters.

Very nice. I'm about a month behind you. I have picked the first two blushing tomatoes so the birds and squirrels won't beat me to them again this year; but I'll have to wait a couple more days.

Thanks all Florida gardening is a challenge for me -- poor soil plus more heat, bugs and rain than I've experienced other places. However, I added huge quantities of organic mater to my soil over the winter which definitely helped. Now if I can get a handle on foliar diseases and RKNs I just might have decent year around production here.

im so envious of those beauties my tomatoes and peppers arent even going in the ground till june 4 so a long way for me to go

Riceloft and stonysoilseeds - I suppose most of us are envious of others for one thing or another. I sure wish I had better soil and cooler weather to work in. But then I suppose it's best if we make the most of what we've got. For me it means building better soil and getting my gardening work done before it gets too hot. Right now I'm waiting for the sun to come up so I can get a bit done before I have to retreat to the A/C and my big green recliner.

thats so true jerry also though when you start with poor soil like i have and you build it up each year to grow better crops and plants thats an amazing sense of accomplishment and joy
