I tried making ristras after seeing a video someone posted here (it might have been Brokenbar). It showed the same basic technique and was really easy. My problem is that by the time the peppers are ripe and ready to be strung into a ristra, it's too damp and cool for them to dry before they begin to get moldy inside. This year I'll just have to core and seed them and turn them over to the dehydrator.

Just found the video -- http://youtu.be/iSBNMj334pc

Yes it was Brokenbar that posted it.
Strangely enough I came up with the same way on my own.

If you go on YouTube you will see people using a needle and thread.
It starts out, how to make a Ristra, first you take a needle and thread, really are you kidding me.

I must be the only gringo out there that knows how to make a Ristra.

I would have use the heavy twine but I was fresh out.

Me, neither - and me, too. Instead of a photo, there is a thin gray outlined rectangle with a "?" inside a blue square. Lots of photos do show up for me, but in some posts, nada.

And I too have not been able to see Worth's (and a few others) pictures for some time now - very frustrating, cause I know they're gonna be great. When I right click and try to open in another window or whatever, I get a message saying I don't have permission to do so, and then get told to log in ... ?!?

The needle and thread method is the one used by all the old Italians. I tried it the first year and it was a failure--as the peppers started shrinking as they dried, the string broke through and I had peppers dropping on the floor.

I was more successful with the method in the video and was able to make a couple of beautiful ristras, but as I said, the inside of the peppers ended up all moldy. Since I wanted to eventually use the peppers, it was disappointing. If I can ever grow more than I need, I would make a ristra or two strictly for decoration.

Does this work with sweet peppers like Jimmy Marcello or is this just a weird question?

I have tied and hung all kinds of peppers to dry them. I hang them in a tall barn above my head. Works great.

I have tried to find out information on humidity to dry peppers.
It seems as though the people in the know are keeping their traps shut on the subject.
And If I see another web page showing someone to use a needle and thread I think I will scream.

Right now mine are on the front porch out of the sun but in the wind.
Humidity is around 60% to 70% and will be dropping.
They are slowly drying but not rotting so far and many are turning red as they dry.

At first I couldn't either. Every time I wanted to look at something or post I got the same message as you til I finally figured it out one day.

Log out of TV. Than google Tomatoville and click on the link for General Discussion. Look for a post that doesn't have a whole lot of replies and click the little icon in the top right hand corner that says reply.

Than the log in screen comes up. It should have your screen name and password already in it. Look right below that to where it says Remember Me. Check that box. That stops the constant log in and lets me see the pics now.

As I have dial up, it takes a few minutes sometimes for the pics to load. It just depends on how big the pic is. Sometimes it may take several minutes for a pic to load and longer if there a lot of pics together. I just sit and wait and eventually they will load.

Hope that helps.

You are lucky, you could not see it. It is 8 PM and these pictures made me hungry. Now I would be eating...
Thanks, Worth. How can one loose extra belly fat?
