2018 mystery tomato solved...
At least i think so.
Finally had a chance to go through my last season seed starting maps. I had two healthy plants early on with lost labels. Battling leafmold I had plenty of extra room so I planted them in a driveway planter where I put various 'snackers'. Get home late, eat a few, shirt pocket a few...always a handfull ripe ones all summer. One was Sungold so that was easy. The other plugged along slowly and made a few dozen bit bigger than golfball-sized fruit that pretty much stayed green. Pale blush on a few. Just barely. Last fruit of the season still hanging on when frost threatened. Picked them all and put the sad fruit in a bowl. A few weeks later around Thanksgiving they started to speckle so I thought to maybe stuff with herbed goat cheese and bake. Cut one to see if it had any potential like indigo rose (terrible but great stuffed and baked) Excellent taste and it had a red-pink odd blush inside. Has to be BunnyHop Rama de Mallorca. First long keeper I've ever grown. First time last season. I saved seed and will grow again side-by-side with BunnyHop seed. Made a fresh loaf of Boule, sliced, toasted just one side under the broiler, rubbed fresh garlic and tomato cut halves like I had in Italy years ago. Fantastic. Very excited to grow again and have possibly tomatoes next Christmas! |

This was my first year growing "hanging" long-keeper tomatoes. I've still got some; guess I should try the traditional tomato on toast with olive oil, basil, etc. too.
It's great you were able to ID an undocumented plant! |
