NAR X Brandywine

Just joined this forum and looking forward to utilizing this wealth of knowledge.
Also just learned of the NAR X Brandywine. Brandywine has been my favorite for years. Are seeds from this cross available as I would love to abtain some??

Ray, did you grow an F1 or F? plant. Either way, unless you distribute seed for the F1 or a stable segregate lots of variation is possible. So if anyone gets these seeds they should not expect exactly what you had. BTW, if you actually have F1 seed I would be game. Thanks.

I grew out F2 seeds that TomsTrees had sent me last year. I only have about 20 F3 seeds left, so this is not a general offer.

The original cross was made by Bill Jeffers, whom many of us know. He made several selections from the saved F2 seeds and at this point different folks have different segregating lines,meaning I don't think anything is genetically stable yet.

Reds and pinks, some PL, some RL.

Seeds for different lines have been passed around at different message sites such as this one.

And of course I'm interested since I introduced Neves Azorean Red (NAR)

Your NAR x Brandywine F3 seeds went out in the mail this morning. It will be interesting to see how your grow-out of these vs. "plain" NAR works for you.

Ray, how many BW x NAR F2s did you grow and what leaf shapes and colors did you get? Which expression did you save seeds from?

I grew 2 plants from F2 seed sent to me. Both plants were RL as I recall, and the fruit looked identical between the two. I have 10 spare seeds left, so you are welcome to them if you want to grow it out yourself.

welcome to t'ville, i joined in dec 08 and have learned so much. this is the first year i have started tomatoes from seeds;without the information and knowledge i got from this forum i would not have been as successful.

As I recall, they were red fruit.

So far in the Brandywine x NAR grow out we have had Regular leaf plants producing Red and Pink fruit and Potato leaf plants producing Red and Pink fruit as well.
The F2 segregate that Ray received from TomTrees (RL Red) has been given the name "NAR-X.
The F2 segregate I grew out (PL Red) was given the name "Brannar".
Grunt grew out 10 F2's ending up with different leaf types, Red or Pink fruit with different fruit size, interior makeup and taste. He just gave them numbers.
So for this year I will be growing the following F3's.
Brannar (PL Red) my grow out
NAR-X (RL Red) tomtrees grow out
#10 (PL Pink) grunts grow out

So, the seeds Ray sent out should be called "NAR-X". I will try to update the the R&D forum thread on this cross as well and here's a link if anybody is interested and it has pictures as well.
