Default The Right Temperature To Eat A Tomato.

I keep my house at 70 or so in the day time and 65 at night.

This is the temperature my tomatoes are.

When you bite into them there is this rush of coolness, juice and flavor that is overwhelming.

I have this pile of Riesentraube tomatoes here that is quickly deminishing.

What temp do you guys eat them?
Don't tell me you refrigerate your tomatoes.

I think a tomato has the best flavor when it is picked "vine ripe"... "ripe" for me this is just a little bit of green shoulders on a firm red tom in 75-85 degree weather.
Otherwise room temp will have to suffice.

can eh, freeze em, make sauce - ooh so many options.

I'm gettin gtired of canning maters with still sooo many left. Anyone get sick of eating maters?

Oh, I'll keep these for fresh eating, a week later they are loosing their flavor and firmness- what to do ,what to do

um...you're kidding, right? Some of us haven't gotten many yet, so NO we are not sick of eating maters!

I would have to guess that I like them best at about 85 degrees or so... while standing in the garden. It does bring out the flavor I think.

Roast them and then freeze them, they are perfect for throwing into some sauce or making sauce with them.

We keep the house at 80-82 F in the summer, so that's the temp at which we eat fresh, raw tomatoes.

I eat fruit at room temperature as well, for the most part. A cold piece of fruit might feel refreshing in hot weather, but you lose a lot of flavor when fruit is at refrigerator temperatures.

Actually not kiding LL They were slow and go in May gray, June gloom, then when the sun finally broke through late June-they all started blushing. I refer my toms ripe- though I did pick a few blush state. Most got a nice color from June 23 or so non stop so I had to pick about a dozen a day.

I picked my last mater this morning and had to pull the plaants out due to powdery mildew and a mild early blight or some other fungi disease and RKN. Also the psylid virus may have effectrd them too. I do have 2 Sophies choice in pots to play w/

Room temperature, which is usually pretty close to outside temperature. We have just one window AC unit that keeps the air in the house drier, but not much cooler.

No worries anybody can derail any thread of mine at any time.

I put it up and it now belongs to the rest of you guys and gals.

It can end with people talking about the trimming of pigs tails for all I care.

Why yes, now that you mention it, I do trim my pigtails in preparation for tomato season. I don't want to lean forward and find a pigtail in the salsa bowl.
