Default New at TGS 2014

I was looking at my favorite on line catalog and found this.

http://www.tomatogrowers.com/New-for-2014/products/28/

The indigo line struck me as something I might try sometime.

I did an Indigo this last year. Flavor was good and it was the only other non-cherry besides Stupice that performed from just after frost, through the hot arid summer, and right into the cold of fall. I've noticed with the blue's that they seem to do better to excellent in the heat and cold. Just all around stress tolerant.

I haven't been impressed with the taste of the Oregon Indigo tomato cultivar. It's a real looker and yes it is high in anthocyanins for a tomato, but it's less than 10% (by weight) than you'll find in other fruits.

I am seeing the blue ones in a lot of seed catalogs this year. I will probably try the Indigo Blue Berries.

Exactly. And for anthocyanins you'll do better per ounce with cranberries, evergreen huckleberry, and bilberry; plus a host of other lesser known fruits.

Folks dont let the above two highly negative posts discourage you from trying something new and exciting.

Mine would taste like blue cheese dressing anyway.

From what I've read there's been improvement in the flavor of the blues compared to the first ones introduced. I'm trying one this year just for the fun of it. If I don't like it I won't grow it again. That goes for any new tomato I try no matter what the color.

I tried Amethyst Cream this season, courtesy of another very generous Tomatovillian, it is stunning to look at, and has a lovely sweet taste if you let it get completely ripe. It is really productive too, and very easy to save seeds from.
This was my first antho one because I always heard negatives, but it is very good. They are improving that taste thing now.

The flavor has improved as people have crossed the original line out to a variety of tomatoes. There is a thread where plant breeders working on these crosses discuss results and it can be interesting reading. OSU Blue observations.
Taste tests were done on a number of the blues last year and there were some posts here, but I'm not sure where.
