One tuber from each (TPS) plant?

Is it common, that there is only one potato on each plant started from TPS, or did it just happen by chance?

In my TPS plant experiment I found 3-5 marble size tubers, one had 3 of decent size around 2 by 3 inches, one plant only 1 tuber. I though maybe I did not hill them enough to reach their full potential.

No I don't think that is normal. I got at least a few from each plant. Only one didn't produce any. Even the seedlings I left to die in pots usualy had more than one tuber.

I am glad you brought that thread here, I learned a few things for my next TPS attempt.

I made the mistake of taking the tiny tubers from green plants instead of letting them die down. Also I "harvested" one plant not completely dead, I better watch the seeds to see if they begin to shrivel.

After reading the responses in this thread I raked the soil where my lone TPS plant used to be once more and found another tuber slightly smaller than the first one. They will both be used as seed potatoes in spring, and are of course identical (clones). I cannot tell, if there are mini-tubers left, but if there are and they survive the winter, they will appear as volunteers next year.
