Default Last night's harvest

I finally got some harvesting done last night! I'm still waiting for the bulk of the tomatoes to ripen, but the first few have been ready within the last weeks. I can't believe how late everything is here!

I love the diversity. Lots of "comfort food" there.

So pretty! What kind of eggplant is that and what are the green peppers in front of the eggplant?

Thanks Shelley and Ted...the eggplants are Diamond and Ichiban (both have produced like crazy this year), and the peppers are Mole chilis

Very nice! I think everybody's year has been crazy. Please keep sharing photos with us! When is your "normal" first frost? Ours is early October.

Robin, our first frost date is also the first week of October...hopefully that means I have a month of heavy harvesting left! Thanks everyone else for the comments!

That's a gorgeous pic BoiseGardener!

Is that a Cosmic Purple or Dragon Carrot I see toward the back left side?

Alfredo...indeed it is a cosmic purple. I planted a mixed bed of cosmics and a "multi color pack", both ED HUME SEEDS and have been very pleased with the results. Most of the ones I have pulled so far have been at least 12" long. I do all of my growing in raised beds and this year I mixed the root veggie bed heavily with peat moss for the first time and it really paid off with my radishes, carrots, and beets.

Ah very nice! How was the Cosmic Purple taste? What varieties of beets did you grow?

The taste of the Cosmic Purple was great and indistinguishable from the other carrots I grew in a blind taste test. They came out of the ground a little limp, but firmed up well after a short period in the fridge. The purple color encompassed about 1-2mm of the external skin and the rest of the inside was standard orange, and as advertised, they lost most of their color when cooked.

I grew Burpees Red Ball beets. I hadn't grown beets before so didn't know what to expect. I think I left them in the ground too long, and ended up picking them when they were about 3-4"+ in diameter. After reading more about them, I think they should have been harvested earlier when they were smaller. I pickled and canned them, and honestly don't know what the "optimum" taste should be since I never grew up eating beets. They taste pretty good to me though!
