Berkeley Tie Dye

Interesting looking fruit for sure. For those of you that have grown it, how is it taste and production wise? Thinking about some new varieties for next year and whether its worth a spot in my garden.

It's worth a spot in my opinion. Decent production of big beautiful fruits. Much more complex flavor than any other striped variety I have tried.

Have to second that, it is worth growing. Not only is it a beautiful tomato on the outside, it is also multicolored on the inside and has great taste!

I was pleasantly surprised. It ranked second in our annual taste test here last year, just behing Mortgage Lifter which had an excellent year and ahead of Earl's Faux.

I've just transplanted Berkeley Tie Dye, Pink Tie Dye, and a *"Faded Tie Dye"

I'm probably about 75 days from tasting them.

*From NORCATT, where it was said to have less defined stripes, but better flavor than BTD.

I have BTD and BTD Pink in the garden. And Beauty King. Glad to hear BTD has brains and beauty.

JMO and personal observations -- as always.

Third year with BTD, and it has never been that productive in my garden. Taste? It is a good tasting tomato, but not what I'd consider to be an 8-9-10.

Of Brad's striped ones I have grown so far, I prefer the taste of BTD Pink (thanks for the seeds, Terry) and Black and Brown Boar. BBB has been super productive for me two years running now. BTD Pink is only moderately productive for me this yr, but the taste is outstanding.

Since Black and Brown Boar are similar in size, Im thinking it might be a good candidate for the fall.

Have to agree with Suze on the BTD. The taste was nothing special here. It has a striking appearance but the Beauty King has been more productive here and I think it's prettier. The Pink Boar really pumped the tomatoes out last season and it was a miserable summer. I'm growing Beauty Queen this season for the first time.

BBB is usually somewhere between golf ball and tennis ball sized. At least it is for me. I agree that it might be a good choice for a fall crop.

This is one I'll probably be growing every year.

I meant to say that it was similar in size to Flamme. But thanks for the info Suze. And if I am not mistaken, you sent me seeds for the variety. Will check when I get home

Here is a photo of Berkeley Tie Dye from my garden this year. It's got great flavor but I prefer Pink BTD.
