Spots and Withering
I just noticed the spots today. The withering has been happening for about a week. It started on the lowest leaves, but today, it's happening on the upper leaves as well. The plants are outside on a table. I watered with half strength MG tomato food, and spayed Organic Fungicide 3 today. (Fungicide, Insecticide, Miticide)
I don't know what the spots are from or why the upper leaves are withering. I water every third day. This isn't happening on every plant. Some plants look really nice. Anyone have an idea of what could cause this? |

It looks like sunburn. Windburn?
Did you harden them off? Are they in full sun? |

I agree with RayR, my first thought was sunburn or windburn.

It has been mostly overcast with 5-10MPH north wind (50s and 60s F).

The spots are normal sometimes, are you watering with 1/2 MG every time?
If so that is too much. Are you keeping the soil wet constantly it is not necessary. That could be burn from nitrogen. And it could be wind burn. The clouds are a poor blocker for UV rays people get sunburned on cloudy days all of the time. Worth |

Worth, I watered with MG in February and then today. Just water all the rest of the times.
Sunburn makes sense because I have that sun/wind burnt feeling on my skin and I've been out with the tomatoes most of the day. I just didn't think of sunburned. Maybe water every 4rth day instead. Thank you. |

Mine have been in the ground a week, and the lower leaves all look that way. I figure they will have fallen off and be forgotten in a month. The new growth which has known nothing but full sun is all fine.
Also, when its very cloudy out for an extended time, they do feel the sun when it finally does break thru. |

I just got back home and the tomatoes look better. The sun did come out while we were gone.
Worth, I didn't know it was called bed straw. People up here call it sticky weed. We have a lot of henbit this spring. Henbit is Lamium amplexicaule. Also edible, and a pain to get rid of. Last edited by AlittleSalt; March 12, 2015 at 09:42 PM. |
