Default UKRAINE TRIBUTE GROW OUT,Interested?

Many of us feel quite helpless watching Ukraine being torn apart. We know we have many forum friends who live in the greater region as well, and of course we are concerned for them!

This UKRAINE TRIBUTE GROW OUT is a small way to show solidarity for the strong people of Ukraine.

Is there any interest?

Easy to participate.
-Choose something or several things from the list below, or that you know are from Ukraine.
-Post on this post below what you are growing so we don't have many duplicates.
-Save seeds from your varieties. Make pkgs of 5 seeds or more when they are dry. Label with your name, Variety and Date
-Send seeds to me by NOV 1,2022. I will collate and redistribute both to participants as well as anyone who wants to grow them!

We will raise awareness collectively as we talk about why we grow these varieties.
We will perpetuate wonderful varieties that Ukrainians have developed and grow there.
We will be doing something small, individually, in support of Ukraine...but from small things come great things.

The list follows seperately in the next post. I will update as needed as more varieties are identified.

Thanks everyone and especially to @greenthumbomaha and @OhioGardener who have spurred this idea!

The list is mostly from Tatianna's Tomatobase so some varieties are from Ukrainian sources and not specifically Ukraine. I have tried to keep the names in their original language with our translations following.

I am hoping those international members may tell me what to delete from the list, or Ukrainian varieties that should be added

I have been praying over a single seed that germinated of "Romance", which was last grown (by me) in 2005. My notes suggest it was, at that time, a popular Ukrainian determinate variety, possibly useful in tight spaces or even containers.

It may be the "Romantica" variety in the list.

I participated in the MMMM swap and recieved "Legenda Tarasenko", which might translate to Tarasenko Legend, as well as "Ocharovnyi Komnatyi" which Google translated to "early dwarf"...it may be "Komnatniy, Ocharovanie - Indoor Charm".

Legenda was already on the grow/save seed list, now O. Komnatyi will get a space, too.

Pray for that lone surviving Romance seedling.

It don't look too good.

I have a packet of "Black Vernissage" which is a variety new to me. I obtained the seed in 2021 from the Experimental Farm Network, and it's described as being from Ukraine. I will be growing this out this season.

I am so happy people want to be involved! How wonderful!

If anyone needs to request Ukrainian seeds, please do that here as well.

Andrey has been in touch and he is going to edit the list as well so this is good news!

And yes @eyeolf I will add your Romantica germination to my long prayer list!

I grew one Kolkhoznitsa (Collective Farm Woman) melon plant last year from a purchased seedling (local plant sale), and saved some seeds (unbagged). I don't have time this month to field requests (too many deadlines all at once!), but if anyone would like a bulk pack to distribute seeds to anyone who wants to grow it this year, I can send one bubbler next week. As far as I could tell, no one near me in the community garden was growing melons, but the recommended isolation distance is 800 ft. to half a mile!

I had a lot of Ukrainian kinds. I sent them to France because I don't have the space, the time and the power to grow them. We'll wait till the end of the 2022th year. Than I can ask for kinds. I do get them.

I should know this, I think, but was Tarasenko Ukrainian? I assume so, since a few varieties on the list bear his name. Every year I grow Legenda Tarasenko, Tarasenko 2, and Tarasenko 6.
Tomorrow I will go through the list and note which other varieties on it I grow, and will contribute to this project.
Anybody know if Shokoladnia Sosulka is Ukrainian?

All Tarasenko varieties are Ukrainian indeed as long as Feodosiy Tarasenko lived in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic in USSR (in Sumy region of Ukraine). I really like all of his high-yelding and multiflora tomato varieties.

My last post triggered a memory-
I did a seed offer here of Nikitovka seeds from an order I placed in 2018. Nikitovka is based in Ukraine. I actually messaged them last night and so far they are safe as are their employees.

Seeds should still be viable and I will go to locate them.
Here were the varieties. Some are clearly marked from Ukraine. Others, such as the de Baraos may be Russian. Perhaps Andrey will comment.

Anyone who wants to grow for the tribute can choose 1, just PM me.
