Default Kyrgyzstan tomatoes - help, Tania and Andry

Had a few minutes to stop by the Osh Bazaar in Bishkek today to score some seeds. I found a lady selling lots of seeds from Russia, Ukraine, and a few from China (actually wish I had bought a couple of the Chinese tomatoes), but when I asked for semenya pomodoro kyrgyzski, she beamed, leaned under the table, and brought out sacks of local seeds in cloth bags.

Here is what she brought out - I bought samples of these three. Can a Russian speaker translate? If this is not Russian, I assume it is Kyrgyz!

Pomodori (tomatoes): Volgograd (town); Rose gigant; Natalka (name of girl)

Thanks so much, Vladimir. Would Rose gigant be the same as Rozovyi Gigant, in terms of translation? http://t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Rozovyi_Gigant

It is possible that this Volgograd is the same as Tania's Volgograd, which came from Russia through Hungary to Tania.

Tania does not list anything like Natalka.

Could it be:

Natalie, det, small pink ovals ( maybe red, can’t find my data)

....... as cut and pasted from a recent seed offer of mine? My seeds were from Andrey and I'm pretty sure it is a CV.

I can't remember whoi might have grown it but if you have the time you can look in the 2012 Fall Performance thread, which I think starts with Carolyn's Fall 2012 Performance. I didn't check to see if I offered it for my most recent seed offer this past Jan, 2013.

OK, it seems I have the Pink Giant Розовый Гигант (Rose gigant in Vladimir's post)- but what is its name in Tania's database?

Carolyn, I see you offered Natalie in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Here is the 2012 report from Dell Traveler in Iowa: "Natalie produced red slightly elongated blocky fat fruits with a slight nipple on a determinate regular leaf plant. Fruit appears in clusters and appears to have the potential to produce seven per cluster in the right conditions. Flesh is dense and there are very few seeds. Flavor improves over the season. A side branch on this plant started to grow, so I clipped off the spent original growth and got a small second wave of fruit. This plant has also been moved to the tunnel to mature the later fruits."

I suppose I shall just have to grow Natalka out to see what it is.

Scott,

Розовый Гигант is Rozovyi Gigant. It is a Russian commercial variety.

I am not familiar with tomato called 'Natalka'.

I grew Volgograd, and liked it.

There are several Russian CVs with "Volgograd" in their names:

Volgogradskiy
Volgogradskiy Skorospelyi 323
Volgogradskiy 5/95
Volgogradskiy Rozovyi

I've been to Russian city of Volgograd in April. It is the poorest Russian cities with 1 million plus of population.

Rozovyi Gigant is the second variety.

Natalka (the third) is not the same as Natalie. Natalka is an Ukrainian female name similar to Natasha and Natalie. This one is probably an amateur OP variety from Ukraine.

Kyrgystan is mostly Russian speaking country since USSR times. And there are so many Russian and Ukrainian tomato varieties there available in shops or at open air markets.

Thanks, Andrey, very helpful indeed. The first two are probably well-known red tomatoes.

I will grow Natalka out next year to see about it.

Scott,

Rozovyi Gigant is pink

Kyrgystan is not a seed heaven at all.
They've got a very spectacular nature.
But they have lost most of their old varieties like many other former Soviet Republics of Middle Asia after SU collapse.

The pic in the right has those three tomato heaps with names. If I understood correctly, the first and the last one says 'Tashkent'. Did you buy and taste any of those?
