Default Earthtainer Fertilizer band

Can anyone explain the rationale for placing all of the fertilizer in a band when preparing the earthtainer or the other commercial brand system? It seems like it would be better to evenly distribute it throughout the growing medium, at least for the phosphorus.

By placing it into a trench when planting, it more slowly disperses into the potting mix during the main growth period.

The wicking effect within the box from the reservior below enables the fertilizer to be evenly and slowly utilized...keeping the strip covered is key !

I have mixed fertilizer throughout the box for certain vegetables, like garlic, beets, carrots as I densly plant them and there are many holes (40 or more) in the cover.
Good luck
