My Sister's x hubby had a huge OLD Jade that would flower every couple of winters. I'm pretty sure it was pot-bound and kept in a cool back hall in winter. That was over 30 years ago so I could be wrong about the conditions tho it was HUGE.

In about 40 years two times. The last time was maybe 25 years ago or more.

The folks in the next town over would have said “life”. They always were kind of full of themselves.

no i don't ever remember seeing it flower. this plant dates to around 1981 or 1982. it has a base that is 5" in diameter. about 7" up from the base it branches into to 2 branches that are 3 1/2" in diameter each. it's a large and healthy plant but don't remember seeing it flower. since april 1999 it has been in a south window the closest tree is 180' away so it is not shaded ever, the 8 1/2 years prior to that it was in a south window but there were trees that would shade it, prior to that it was in a south window no shade ever.

My jades always flower in the late fall or winter, but only after I let them spend the summer outdoors in full sun. Once they come back in for the winter, the big reduction in sunlight triggers the flowering. If I keep them inside all year, they do not flower at all.

Mine is just about to open first blossoms. It flowers every winter. I keep it outside when there's no danger of frost. During winter I keep it in a bright unheated room.

I don't really believe this to be true...
I don't think Jade is a light sensitive plant.

Nice lurley!

There is a great deal of discussion online about jade plants and their ability to flower. Many people have posted that they have had their jade plants for 10, 20 or more years and they rarely or never bloomed.
Others have described strict protocols of bright light days followed by cold dark nights, induced stress thru lack of watering and other tricks, and even then have had limited success.
My experience is just what I wrote above: put the plant outdoors for as long as your weather allows, bring it in for the winter. No special conditions indoors of temperature, light or dark, normal watering, and they bloom in November or December.
I didn’t set out trying to force them to bloom; I just noticed the pattern after a couple of years of moving the plants out to the deck for the summer. Whatever the houseplants do, they do in spite of the way I “care” for them.
Of course, I don’t allow my houseplants to go online, so they may just be flowering out of pure ignorance.

I myself have done some trials...
I have found that the more light the Jade has... and cool night temps in the fall is what triggers the flowering period in late fall early winter.
...I also found that it has nothing to do with the age...but a good size speciman.

The first pic...
The Jade is only 5 years old from a cutting...2010
The second pic at 4 years...
and blooming again this year!

It lives in a greenhouse and gets supplemental lighting at night...year round.
The night time temps are kept cool around 55*-58*F during the fall and winter.
and early spring.

The other cuttings from the trial has never bloomed...but they do not get supplemental lighting...nor are they as big.

So I am convinced the extra lighting has promoted budding as well as cool night temps.
