Brandywine - yellowing leaves

Hello,

I have a Brandywine [thats -all- I know about it].

It has 3 smallish tomatoes set on it so far. It is in a 15" container. I noticed recently that some of the leaves were yellowing so I cut them off. I figured a few of the lower leaves were no great loss. Apparently there is some sort of problem because more of the leaves are starting to yellow. The soil does not feel moist, and it is not wilting at all. I've been trying to deeply water it but not OVER water it.

Is there a way to figure out if it is over or under watering?

Sir Zoltan,

Have you considered stripping all the wilted, yellowed bottom foliage off, along with those few lower side shoots branching off near the base of the plant, and then filling the top of the container with a mulch of shredded wheat straw to protect near-surface roots and hold in moisture?

Also, if you water frequently and heavily, are you replenishing your nutrients once a week or every 10 days or so (since frequent deep waterings probably leach out a lot of nutrients)?
