I was just saying the other day that I've never seen a Monarch in the garden. Well, lookee what came visiting two days ago! It was on those poor zinnias that are rapidly declining. And it only wanted to mess with the red ones.

I've noticed that the Fritillarys are starting to show some ragged looking wings. Their time is getting short.

Meanwhile the fall mums are blooming and that's brought in a whole new set of butterflies, mainly various skippers. They are about an inch or so wide and I think there are several closely related ones on those blooms. I've tentatively ID'd the first one as a Fiery Skipper but the second one is a bit different.

Both have been submitted to the Butterflies and Moths of North America site for identification. https://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/
