If you don't want to top them, you can string some lines of twine across the underside of the top of your pergola, as much as needed to accommodate all the branches, and use tomato clips to attache the branches to the twine. Or, attach hortonova netting horizontally to the underside of the top of your pergola and let it support the branches as they extend through the hortonova.
