Are the growing conditions exactly the same as last year? I know that it was unseasonably cold until very late here in PA, then May was a solid wall of rain. If tomatoes were doing exactly the same as last year, they'd be doing exceptionally well.

Not sure where you are in NC, but the Eastern Seaboard tends to get the same weather patterns, just with increased average temps as one goes south (with exceptions from mountainous areas/microclimates).
