Default Lessons learned with gladioli

So in the middle of February I planted some pots of gladioli bulbs. They never thrived and looked healthy and I didn't get any blooms.

1. I think I planted the bulbs too early, even though some sites on the internet said mid Feb. was OK to plants bulbs for my area. The soil was not warm enough.
2. These plants get way too tall for pots (unless maybe you have a really large container). And perhaps they were too crowded.
3. I didn't have the best quality bulbs..they were small and came from a big box store.

So later on in the season I planted some bulbs in nooks and crannies...wherever I could find room. About half bloomed. Dappled sunlight seemed to work best. I had to stake most of them when they sent up bloomstalks.

And I didn't know bees liked them.
