University of Hawaii did grow trials on daikon, several were japanese heirlooms.

Another UofH study with more cultivars.

I have some Tokinashi if either you or peebee want to try.

I'd say 7/10 of things at daiso are hybrid. some variance expected if you save seed. Good hybrids though. The asian seed houses - know-you, sakata, tokita, etc... all do a great job.
