Yes, it's the gas, not the tiller. We use canned gas called Trufuel in all of our small engines i.e. tiller, weed eater, blower, etc.
They all start on the first pull now. Since our tiller sits in the garage all year, I think that my husband lets it run dry and then adds Stabil to the tank for over the winter.
I would recommend getting your fuel system cleaned out and then using TruFuel rather than replacing the tiller. It will be cheaper and electric tools never seem to be as powerful.
