Angela, there is a fellow I used to trade seeds with up in Massachusetts who selected the best examples from Big Mama over several years and was very happy with his results after about the F4 or F5 if I remember right. He didn't have a big garden and just made do the best he could growing a few plants each year but saving the better examples. I may have some of his F3 seeds from about 2006 or 2007. Never grew them because I found an excellent extra large, pepper shaped paste from Peters Seed and it was already open pollinated. Best you can do is just give it a try.
